The Black Female Character

There should not be a template for the Black Female Character...We are not a collective.

Skin has 3 layers:

The epidermis - the outermost layer of skin - provides a waterproof barrier and creates skin tone.
The dermis - beneath the epidermis - contains tough connective tissue, hair follicles and sweat glands.
The hypodermis - consists of fat and connective tissue.

Skin colour is created by special cells called melanocytes that produce the pigment melanin.
Melanocytes are found in the epidermis.

Ergo, dark skin does not and will never taste like chocolate, toffee, honey, caramel or any other type of brown confectionery. At least not in my stories.

I am all for diversity in films, but...

I am tired of seeing the same old tired films rehashed or rebooted just for the sake of including a diverse cast. How about new stories / films that feature a diverse cast from the get go? That feature a Black hero or Black heroine from the get go? That feature a Black hero or Black heroine in a story purposely written with a Black hero or Black heroine in mind? Something new. Something meaningful. Something well-written. Something inherently different. Not trite or stereotypical or superficial.

You can't please all of the people...

...and you shouldn't want to. 

It would be presumptuous to assume everyone will like my stories when I am equally critical of the stories I read or the films I watch or the music I listen to.

I write primarily for myself; stories that I like and would like to read. 

It's not my intention to bend over backwards to please everyone. No one writer will ever achieve that.
